Brussels Friendly 12: Newcomers and Upsets

Dear backgammon friends,

Brussels Friendly 12 gathered 11 players on Friday the 6th of April in a terrific new location : La Chevalerie, a horse riding school at Sint-Genesius Rode, near Brussels and Waterloo. After the traditional spaghetti, we welcomed three new players : Geert DOOMS and Steven STEENO participed already in Leuven organizations but for Stavros COTSOGLOU it was his baptism of fire and, astonishly, he performed remarkably well beating Dominique STUYCK in the first round of the main tournament (matches to 5) and surprisingly Toon VAN HERREWEGHEN (5 times Brussels Friendly winner) in the second round. Meanwhile other upsets : Akhbar SOLTANI won against Johan SEGERS and Alex SCHRAGER beat Paul VAN DIJKE. Bert VAN KERCKHOVE ousted quickly Alain CHIF and organizer Guy VAN MIDDELEM to reach the semi-finals to end Stavros’ run. Patrick DEWILDE was bye in the first round, won against Akhbar and Alex : the final was between him and Bert. In a well fought match, Bert emerged. Congrats for his first Brussels Friendly victory !

In the consolation (matches to 3), Akhbar and Guy made a good move but the final was between the two losing semi-finalists of the main, Stavros and Alex. Both won a prize for the first time, Alex took the third place.

In the last chance (matches to 1), Steven won against Alain, Toon and Akhbar to meet Johan (winner of Geert, Paul and Guy). Johan took the fifth place.

Next Brussels Friendly 13 on Friday the 4th of May.

See you then and keep on rolling, Guy
